John Cunniff Jr. Chowder Cup

Here are the results from the Games Played at the Jr. Chowder Cup

Game 1

July 10th 3:55pm

Vs NSHD

Sharks Go Down 7-3 in opener

We were very sloppy the first period. Passing was poor and lots of fanning on the puck. We were out shot 15-6 and most of our attempts were wide or right into their defensemen. Mullane was awesome the first half, only letting 2 by, but both were off deflections from our defensemen. Besides the ugly play the boys were upbeat and had lots of hustle. End of first half NSDH 2 Sharks 0. The first 10 minutes of the second half were ugly. They came out with jump and we sat their and watched. They added 4 more goals on lots of Sharks turnovers. It seemed everyone had to swipe at the puck three times to get a pass off. and we blocked 1 shot the entire game. Kavianpour finally got us on the board with a PP goal from Zehnder and Botolotto. That energy was short lived as they scored again 12 seconds later. We got another PP a few minutes later and Doucet scored from Kazarnovsky right off the end zone face off. Bortolotto then scored from Zehnder on our only 5 on 5 goal. We really played well the last half of the second half, Hopefully that will carry over. End of the second half NSHD 7 Sharks 3. Outstanding mentions go to Tydingco, Bortolotto, Henry, Mullane, Zehnder, and Doucet.

Game 2

July 11th 2:10pm

Vs. Portland (Maine) Jr. Pirates

Sharks Take Down Pirates 5-0

The boys looked a little better today. Still played with lots of hustle but this time started using their heads. Yesterday the boys played in front of the UNH, Union, Dartmouth, scouts along with several other D1 College teams and all the EJHL Junior teams. Today it was Boston College, Merrimack, Umass Lowell, plus lots of D1 Prep Schools. Doucet got us on the board first on the PP from Kazarnovsky and Henry. Dimaggio blasted a huge slap shot past the goaltender from Pacheco. Mullane was good stopping the Pirates couple of flurries keeping them off the board. End of the first half Pirates 0 Sharks 2. The Pirates came out with a little more jump early in the second but Schiller was on his game and kept them off the board. The Sharks then took over again when Doucet got his second of the game catching the pass on the goal line stepping to the net and driving it home from Kazarnovsky and Henry. Shortly after Starr extended the lead to 4 from Bortolloto's hard work around the net. The Pirates just got ugly after that taking several penalties and starting several scrums. The Sharks held on and even capitalized on a 5 on 3 PP when Kazarnovsky poked home a Pacheco centering pass. All and all a much better game than yesterday, not just because of the win, but because they are starting to play smarter. End of Second Half Pirates 0 Sharks 5. Outstanding mentions go to Tydingco, Kazarnovsky, Doucet, Henry, Mullane, Schiller, Nourie, and Pacheco.
